Mile Building Passages

Mile Building PassagesAt the heart of the RYA Sail Cruising & Yachtmaster Scheme is the progression from novice to advanced Yachtmaster. This progression is recorded by way of the G15 RYA Logbook. The concept is that after each sailing trip completed details of the passage are noted and approved by the yacht’s skipper. One of the fundamental details recorded is sea miles.

Sailing brings with it an infinite range of variables. These are incredibly diverse and cannot possibly be taught in the confines of a classroom. A great sailor is born from experience gained on the water. It is only “out there” in the environment that the conditions and situations that are encountered can be experienced and learned. Even a great sailor doesn’t know it all, but, as experience is gained, knowledge grows.

Miramar Sailing School offers Mile Building Passages aimed at providing the sea miles and experience necessary to progress through the scheme to the highest level.

Before you can take your Yachtmaster examination you need to have logged at least:-

Our Mile Building Passages are 5 days of intensive cruising throughout the Caribbean Island chain. We aim to log at least 60 miles per day, sail overnight for at least one night and provide students with at least one opportunity to skipper the yacht for one or more of the passages. Opportunities could increase subject to the number and experience of the other students on board.

Our Yachtmaster Xpress programme contains 5 weeks of Mile Building Passages and you are welcome to book one or more according to your time scales. We will also consider running Mile Building Passages outside of our Yachtmaster Xpress schedule subject to demand. Please contact us for further information.
